Why does my son throw a fit every night at 8pm?

My eight month old son, in the past month, has decided at eight pm to wake up and just start screaming. He'll have tears running down his face and is crying so hard he can't breathe. I try everything to calm him down and it just doesn't work. He has never been like this. He has always been a very calm baby that never cried. I don't know what is going on. He is teething, but I couldn't imagine that every single night at the same exact time is when his teeth would start hurting. He is also starting to not want to be around my husband and I. Throughout the day I will try playing with him and trying to interact so he can learn things. He just gets really mad and starts crying about that to. He seems happiest when he is in his bouncer and watching cartoons without anyone messing with him. Is this normal? Is it just a phase he is going through? I have tried since he was born not to baby him to much, because when he got older I wanted him to have some independency, but I'm afraid he has gotten to independent now. This breaks my heart because he has always been all about spending time with his mama, and now I feel like he wants nothing to do with me. Please give me advice, is this just a phase?
