4. AKRao24 (874) | 2 years ago | Mine is also O + Ve, Do you now what are the types of blood groups and how they are determined, who is a universal donor and who is universal recepient? There ate 4 types of b;lood groups. They are A, B, AB and O.They are determined by the presence or abscence of a particular Antigen on the blood cells. Presence od Antigen A in the blood makes the group A, Presence of Antigen B makes the Blood group B, presence of both the antigens in the blood, on the blood cells make the blood group AB and absence of both the Antigens makes the blood group O. Bexcause of thse antigens blood from a donor can be trasfused to reciepient of same group without any problem as there won't be any raection or clashing of the Antibodies formed against any forign antigens. However O group can donate blood to all the four groups as people from this group don't have any antigen in their blood.Thas why this blood group is called Universal donor. AB group can give blood to only AB group, but can recive blood from all the four groups and thats why this group is known as universal recepient. The positive or negative sign after the group is called RH factor named after a Monkey called Rhesus monkey, depending upon the presence or absence of that particular factor. To have tranfusion after having matched the suitable groups, we also have to match the Rh factors as both of them has to be from same group, i.e either negative or positive!
