What are good sources to network in the Internet / New Media Industry?

I am looking to change industries (from the business side of high-tech to the business side of New Media / Internet).
I don't have contacts in the industry, and would like to network a bit before blindly sending out my resume.
Are there resources, websites, communities, blogs, etc (I live in New York City if there happens to be something locally pertinent) that I can explore to find what I'm looking for?

I would go talk to the New York Chamber of Commerce. The chamber usually has various meeting every month for different sectors of the business population. You can attend their event. I believe they give some business advice as well.
