In Karnataka, you have to register your firm/company/organization/trust with the labour department if you are employing people. The certificate is valid for 6 years and certain amount of fees has to be paid.
Secondly, you have to maintain books as prescribed including wages register. You have to display the name board and also a board describing working hours and weekly holiday.
Wages should be either as per the minimum wages act or higher, but not lesser than minimum wages.
Overtime wages have to be paid as per the rules of the department, not a small amunt for coffee and lunch.
On Government notified national holidays, there should not be any work at the firm and employees should be given holiday. If found violating the rule, a pentalty will be imposed. There are many many rules, but the major ones are discussed above.
