What happens to a person after he/she dies?

We often hear it say that there is a life after death, that death is not the end but a beginning.
That might be true and it might not be true but it is true that Death is a great leveller and everyone has to die, sooner or later.
What do you believe happens to a person after he dies? Do you believ that becuae of your religious beliefs or some other reason?
