The choice of medications depends on a lot of things. One of the most important things is determining if your problems are mainly related to depression or to anxiety (most people who are treated have both, but one of them is predominant). If you were treated for mostly anxiety, then wellbutrin may not be the best drug for you, because it is stimulating (meaning it oftentimes increases anxiety disorders). In my practice, I have not found many people who could tolerate wellbutrin at the doses needed to treat depression, either.
There are many newer drugs available now to treat depression and/or anxiety; most of them are well-tolerated, have few side effects, and work well. Talk with your healthcare provider. And remember, most side effects will lessen and probably disappear after 3-4 weeks, so if they aren't too severe you may want to try to stick it out. It is also important that you give the drug time to work- it is usually 3-4 weeks before you're feeling better. Good Luck

Anyways, how did wellbutrin make you meaner? That doesn't make any sense. Being anxious has nothing to do with being mean. If you took wellbutrin and it made you angry or mean, that's one thing. I am currently on wellbutrin, mainly for anxiety and it works like a charm. I now only worry about things that I should worry about. Only the big things bother me. You should consult your doctor, but paxil is always an option as well as prozac. I've been on both but they had adverse affects on me.
Everyone's reacting to every medication will be different, talk to your doctor and he/she will be able to go through different medications.
I am not a medical professional so take my advice with a grain of salt and seek help from a doctor!:)

| ricki1223 (93) | 4 years ago | Thank You, I know that some meds have different effects on people which is why I asked this question. I started taking wellbutrin in October and I have noticed myself on edge most of the time. I have an appt. with my doctor. I was just wondering what other people thought and what had worked for them!! So thank you!! As for the post that had no clue:):) Thank you also!!
