| | | 7. theKop (1503) | 3 years ago |  The Ring is a remake of Japan's infamous movie, Ringu. The movie is remade with an American setting and actors, but keeps the story line and great scares that the original had.
The story of The Ring revolves around a reporter named Rachel. The story begins with Rachel (Naomi Watts) discovering her neice has died late at night, and her neice's friends say the death was caused by a mysterious video tape that she watched. Curious, Rachel finds the tape, watches it, and embarks on a 7 day objective to uncover the secret of the tape before she dies too. Though the story of the movie is pretty good, it's not the most original one and I felt that a little more things could have been explained (but luckily a sequel is coming out).
Acting wise, Watts did a convincing enough performance, and the other actors and actresses followed suite. Direction was done very well, shots were set up nicely for some chills and the visuals were done very well, especially in a specific scene towards the end.
What I really loved about the movie was the mystery of the tape and how Rachel uncovers it slowly. The tape in the movie has many images, and some of the scares come from you just seeing some familiar things from the tape in Rachel's travels.
Overall, The Ring is definatly one of my favorite horror/thrillers,
