Kitten vs pet bird problem  email this discussion to a friend?

catsk123 (45) 6 years ago

I have a 5 month old kitten (Muffin)who is very curious and trying to play/attack a cockatiel in his cage.
I keep Muffin in my bedroom while I am at work so that Buster doesn't end up as a snack, but I would like to have her roam freely. Even when I'm home I have to be alert because she ends up over by the bird cage trying to climb up it.
I know its just in a cat nature to want to attack anything that is noisy and moving, but is there anything that I can do to keep her away from the birdcage at least when I am at home. (I think trusting her to stay away while I'm away would be pushing my luck)
Thanks for any suggestions!

By the the picture of the black & white cat is Robin Hood and he's too old to climb anything or pay much attention to Buster.

I have the same problem, but I have 2 lunatic kittens, they are about 6 or 7 months old. They leap on the bird cage. Try to find a squirt gun, when the cat goes near the bird, blast the cat, it won't hurt the cat but will get his attention.

Thanks for the suggestion. I guess this means that I only have more chaos to look forward to as she gets older! lol At least your kittens are getting plenty of exercise.
