| |  Valmiki thought of presenting his hero Rama as "maryaada purushottama", an exemplary person. "karuna nidhi" Treasure of courage. Dhrud`ha vrata: One who keeps promises.
Sage Valmiki himself was moved with pity when he found a hunter killing a male bird causing enormous grief to a female bird. He cursed the hunter. This is the spur for the Epic of Ramayana.
Rama promised to his mother Kausalya to live like a sage, abstaining from meat. Rama broke his promise and sent Lakshmana for hunting "krishna mruga" (spotless black deer) for burning the flesh.
Same Rama went for the golden deer at the request of Sita. It turned out to be a demon. Then he killed another deer, took its flesh and went back to his cottage to find Sita kidnapped by demon Ravana.
This Rama sends his pregnant wife to a desolate forest, without telling her that she is being abandoned.
Hindu priests have a tendency to twist facts in defence of Rama, because if people lose faith in Rama, nobody will come to temples.
