Which is better -- first or second trilogy? |
| |
| Which do you think is better -- the first trilogy with Anakin, or the second trilogy with Luke? I myself would have to say the Luke Skywalker trilogy, Episodes IV, V, and VI are the absolute best hands-down. I was sooo disappointed in the first trilogy. It was just awful. | | | | | |

| | I agree -- bad, bad acting. There were plenty of scenes that should have been filled with emotion and really draw you in -- especially scenes in episode iii... and they were soooo flat. | | | |

| | Definately the Luke trilogy episodes 4, 5, 6 are my faves. However, for those who complain of bad acting in the newer trilogy, watch 4, 5, and 6. There's alot of downright cheesy dialog and stiff performances. Not to mention the dreaded Ewoks! Hey, it was suppose to be for kids! I DO like Episodes 2 and 3 fairly well. I think they really showed the downfall of Anakin quite well. I particulary think Episode 3 delivered the goods. | | | | | | |

| | Yes, I do admit the Ewoks made me cringe. It was like watching two totally different movies at once: one with Ewoks and cheesy dialogue and one with Luke battling Vader and the Emperor. It was weird. | | | |

| | Well I like both actually. There are certain parts I like better. In the prequel set I like Saga Begins and Revenge of the Sith and in the original set I love Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi best. Yes I know you need a New Hope but after seeing it several times I find it lags in several areas so I usually skip it when doing a marathon night. I do know the original set better because I've watched it more but I've also owned a copy of it longer then the other. Now I have noticed errors in the 1, 2, and 3 movies that contradict the original but I try not to nitpick. | | | | | | |

| | I can see how one could like parts of both. :) I guess I'm biased being a die-hard first trilogy fan since the first movie in 1977. *g* There *are* errors in the I-III movies that bug me. Like when Padme dies before she ever even gets to hold her babies in III, when clearly in Return of the Jedi Luke asks Leia what she remembers about her "real" mother, and Leia is able to describe her as looking sad, though "she died when I was very little." These kinds of things bug me, because either George forgot his own screenplay, OR he just forwent continuity for the sake of a good dramatic moment. In IV-VI, the continuity is so sharp and details are treated as important. I think Lucas never really wanted to make I-III but did it mostly for the money. JMHO, of course. :) | | | |

| | The second triology with luke.....though the first one was very good with love, sentiments, graphics,It was the second triology that had a graphic that u would say 4,5,6 parts would hae been released after 1,2,3 parts.......i mean to say that after watching 3rd part u see 4th part u'll feel that there's a continuatuon such was the graphics render in the 4th part....that's why the 2nd triology is the best | | | | | | |

| | the second trilogy (episodes IV, V, VI) are infinitely better than the current crop of star wars movies. I don't know if the last three movies were that all bad. They were just average movies, but when compared to the original series, it just makes them seem even worse. | | | | | | |

| | Maybe that's part of it. Expectations were so incredibly high. Well, Star Wars created an international fan phenomenon that ingrained itself into American culture (and many other cultures, too!). So when you compare the current trilogy to the original trilogy -- well, there is no comparison, even with the advances in special effects technology. Just goes to prove that even the fanciest special effects can't compensate for a badly written or badly acted movie. | | | |

| | I think that the first, but I was very young to see how much it was good for the people in that time. But the second is very good too, I like more of Episody 2 | | | | | | |

| | Being a child vs being an adult might have something to do with how you view the trilogies. If I'd been a kid when I saw I-III, I probably would've liked it a lot more. :) So I know what you mean about being young. | | | |

| | First trilogy had the Ewoks, but second trilogy had Jar Jar Binks. I could stomach the Ewoks more, so the first trilogy. | | | | | | |

| | ROTFL!!! Yeah, I was worried before the Anakin trilogy ever even began because of the Ewoks. I saw Lucas degenerating into commercialism and marketing strategies and gearing things toward kids. That's why I think that Return of the Jedi was so, well, "schizophrenic." The last half was like there were two totally different movies going on at the same time, like watching tv with your spouse constantly switching between two stations. There was the serious "adult" part -- Luke vs Vader & the Emperor -- and the silly kids' part, the Ewoks and Han & Leia. But Jar Jar was infintely worse than the Ewoks. So I agree with your assessment. Heh. | | | |

| | I think 4-6 was the best. Although it was shot way back around 30 years ago but still can be compared with latest trilogy. Also the story line was much better. I think that is the same reason the producer thought of making those parts first | | | | | | |
