New Telescope?  

What is your budeget? As a begginer, I would recommend a Dobsonian telescope. An Dobsonian reflector telescope with 8" aperture will serve you right to observe solar system object nicely. However, it is all depend on the sky condition.

I'm not sure you have done any survey on the telescope on the internet. There are many guide out there to choose a right telescope. Don't be fool by the magnificient power on the box. Aperture is the one should take into consideration. But you don't wan a telescope with very big aperture as it normally come in huge size. It will be a hassle to bring it around for sky gazzling.

Besides the scope itself, the Tripod is one of the most important factor in chosing a telescope. There are many entry level scope comes with "not stable" tripod where it is shaky while doin the sky onservation. That is why i recommend Dobsonience type, where it is simple yet stable!! But the drawback is.. it doesnt look as nice as tripod telescope.
