Why Do We Say-Thank God It's Friday

I know that some people say it because they only work Monday through Friday.But I say thank God I am here to see yet another day?

I think its the fact that we are glad that the week is over with. For most, especially when the phrase began it was due to them working Monday through Friday. They made it through another week and could relax. They had two days off and didn't have to worry.
