In light of a well-intentioned myLot question regarding name translations, I thought I would put the actual Katakana "alphabet" out there so you can really translate your name. What that other user listed has absolutely nothing to do with the actual sounds regarding a real translation and it came off as cute but very misleading. I spent 4 years in Japan learning to read and write the language and worked for a Japanese corporation so seeing that I just kind of had to shake my head. No offense meant. With no further delay, here is Katakana (Only showing Katakana and not Hiragana or Kanji because foreign words and names are translated only with Katakana.) Please look at the picture and then try to translate your name. If needed, I will help you with your own translation. My name is Tammy and tami- in Japanese, using the ta and the mi sounds. The "-" indicates a longer-held "i" sound but you don't have to worry about that. In Japanese, consonants are always followed by a vowel so a name that has two or three syllables in English can wind up having 3, 4 or more in Japanese. If you need any help just ask!
