Pride and Prejudice: How does the movie compare to the book in your opinion?

Yes, the book was definately better. Though I think this particular movie did pretty well covering it. There was actually a BBC series that did the best job of dramatizing the novel. But, the movie was a lot better than the adaptation of Sense and Sensibility.

I too enjoyed the movie, but the book is much superior. My problem was I kept comparing the new movie adaptation to the 1995 adaptation with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. I really enjoyed the movie - they did a good job at condensing the book into a 2 hour film. But the new version lacks the subtleness of the book and the '95 version.

I've never read the book, but I've enjoyed the movie alot.

I personally prefer the book, but then again I'm very much a bibliophile. I have not seen the new movie. I did really enjoy the BBC series in 1995 that starred Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. While there is no substitute for reading the book, I'd say that this is an excellent dramatization of Pride and Prejudice. I don't think I'll ever be able to read the book without picturing Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy.

I've watched all the pride and prejudice movie versions. That is BBC Version (the long one), the new remake with Keira Knightley, and also another so old version of this movie. Plus I read the book twice. Once on the net and once on the hardcopy. I have the hardcopy and all the dvds.
Do you think I could be called Pride and Prejudice freak? LOL
Anyhow, love them all, the book and the movie. It's not the same but they all contribute in a different way of excitement to me.

I liked the movie even though i would prefer reading the book over and over again as opposed to rewatching the movie. i also think kiera knightly played a great elizabeth bennet.

as myself is concerned, I liked the first part of the film but not the middle and not the ending part...at the beginning they did a good job...they were very close to the book and the atmosphere of book.....but as the story went on...they simply rum into the end and omit so many things that somebody who had never read the book before would surely be misunderstood or limited in his/her understanding...On the other hand, I think they did a great job as locations are implied...if you buy the dvd you can see that they used real estate properties and this resulted in creating a familiar atmosphere, closely resembling that pictured by jane Austen...Of course, none film could be better of this masterpiece of Jane Austen, that everybody should read

I liked the movie version with Keira Knightley and James McFadden but yet it's definitely not on the same level to me as the mini-series with Colin Firth. That one I thought was more true to the novel. Both were enjoyable but more so the mini-series to me.

I enjoyed watching the movie..it is a nicley made one..but when u compare it with the book ...the book always wins hands down

I like the book better; the opening line is fantastic.:)

The movie was okay, but I'd pick the BBC version any day. Mostly because I adore Colin Firth, haha.
