My rule for the day:

In addition to starting to set a daily "I'm going to try" thing for my health (today's was "I'm going to try to start not drinking soda at work"), I'm going to set myself a rule a day to improve my health.
Today's rule is:My pedometer does not belong in my desk drawer, it belongs on my hip.
If I hide my pedometer and it's not in plain sight, I will not use it, and I need to walk every day so I can get in shape and lose weight, and record my mileage so I know if I'm improving, so I need my pedometer!

That is a very good idea. Set daily goals for the day. i should try to do that. I could only have one goal a day though.

I think that's all I'm going to have, one thing to try & one rule. Today is to stop drinking soda at work and to use my pedometer (and not hide it in my desk).
I'm not sure about tomorrow, what to try to start doing. Maybe to eat one piece of fruit a day. What's a good rule, any suggestions?

I've tried that, I'm not a big fan of water. So far I think I've got about 32 ounces in me, so at least I'm 1/2 way there! :) I'm trying, with those Crystal Light packs I drink more water, they only have 5 calories per serving but you have to be careful b/c one of the pouches is 2.5 servings, so it's really about 15 calories but that's still better than nothing! :)

that's really a good idea and good luck. I think that I may do the same. First on my things to do for my health would be to quit smoking, then it's off to the gym. :)

Quitting smoking is another one on my list. I don't even bother telling myself that I'll go to the gym though b/c I know I won't, I hate gyms and I've already wasted too much money signing up and not going.
But I am going to have a new rule for today. Today's rule is that I will write in my journal EVERY DAY. Even if I don't want to. I will write how I feel and how my day was, and how my diet & exercise is going.

That is a very good way to do it, by setting daily "rules" and implementing changes on a daily or even weekly basis. I have so much I want to do in 2007, I am having a bit of trouble breaking them all down into smaller steps. I really like your idea. It will take a lot of calender work for me though, as I have to write everything down so I can check it off. That is what I do during the week between Christmas and New Years though. It is my yearly goal setting week. I have to find my pedometer, I know it's here somewhere, lol. Happy New Year. Thank you for sharing your tip with us.

I can't handle more than one or two goals at a time, I will break them ALL. I didn't have any soda at work today. This one might actually be easy to keep - if I don't buy it or bring it with me, I can't drink it. I just need to turn "not drinking soda at work" into "drinking water at work" because I still struggle with that, I usually have to realize I'm thirsty b/4 I get out the Big Gulp! :)
I left my pedometer at home so I already broke one of my rules BUT I did walk on my lunch break (without it) for about 15-20 minutes.
