should the other subjects except the branch subjects be banded in degree course

There should be no other subjects in a degree course othher than the branch subjects,like if i am a computer science student and i should only read the subjects related to computer as because in my future i have to work on that field only,so why should i go to read the subjects like mechanics,T.D,material science etc.
