Does anyone out there know anything about S.S. Benefits? I have a friend that is over 65 yrs. old and has started collecting benefits, she wants to relocate but has decided
against it because she believes that her monthly earnings
will be reduced if she move to another state. Is this true? Oh, I live in the U.S.. Really kinda concerned. SS

No the amount does not decrease. It is based on her past earning and can only increase with the cost of living. The Federal government handles this income and these checks. The good thing is she can move anywhere in the US and still get her SS check. It is usually a direct deposit and she only needs to do a little paperwork when she relocates. always wait one month before closing one account after opening a new account because the change over may not be made instantly.

I am not sure how it works in the U.S. but here in Australia people have to provide proof of ID, the pension is means tested, i.e. assets and income. The same amount is paid irrespective of where the person lives, subject the the means test part that is. I would suggest that your friend could contact the local office and see what information they need and how the move would affect her payments/pension.

It looks like I will have to call, although I wish I could have avoided that. Sometimes when calling the Gov. you can end up being on the phone an extremely long time, while the
switch you from office to office...Thanks for the help...SS

SS is based on federal funding not state so if she decides to relocate it won't change. have her call her nearest SS office and they can give all the info that she needs About changing address and all that.

It depends on which state you live in. It varies from each state, because of the cost of living. Have her check how much each state gives out. Some states offer more money than others.
