| People may laugh, but in my travels I've searched the country (USA) for the best diner, chain and individual with the best trashcan Meatloaf. So far its a mom and pop outfit in the tiny town of Independence, Kansas (thats Kansas, not Missouri) just on the outskirts of town (if its still there) in 1995. Next best was the Euchee Creek Restaurant in Grovetown, Georgia in 1977 which is no longer there unfortunately. My best friend Linda in Michigan can whip up one in about an hour and melts in my mouth. Tell me where you found the best or if you know someone (or yourself) who can make the best and let us know where. | | | | | |

| | Bee's Knee's Basic Meatloaf I get one lb of ground chuck or sirloin hamburger, add 1/4 cup of A-1 sauce, 1 1/2 cup bread crumbs (italian style for my taste), some chopped onion and garlic, salt and pepper, one teaspoon of cumin, and 2 teaspoons of oregano. Then I squish it together and knead it like bread a few times to mix everything. I put it into a loaf pan and shape it nicely, add a 1/2 cup water and top it with some capsup (ketsup) all across the top. I cover it with foil and then put it in a 350 degree oven for about one hour, maybe less. Absolutely delicious! Thats for Basic - for Trashcan Meatloaf, Do not add Cumin and before putting inside loaf pan, add 1/3 cup each of no more than 3 of the following: leftover baked beans, cooked lentils, chopped green peppers, chopped up green beans, corn, chopped hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, grated cheese, and ADD ONE EGG WITH THE 3 ITEMS. Mix well and then put i loaf pan. Follow oven directions and time. | | | |

Brown Sugar Meatloaf Cook Time: 1 Hour Ready In: 1 Hour 30 Minutes "This tasty meatloaf flavored with ginger, has a sweet brown sugar and ketchup glaze." INGREDIENTS: 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup ketchup 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef 3/4 cup milk 2 eggs 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper 1 small onion, chopped 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 3/4 cup finely crushed saltine cracker crumbs DIRECTIONS: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 5x9 inch loaf pan. 2. Press the brown sugar in the bottom of the prepared loaf pan and spread the ketchup over the sugar. 3. In a mixing bowl, mix thoroughly all remaining ingredients and shape into a loaf. Place on top of the ketchup. 4. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour or until juices are clear. | | | | | | |
