Forbidden Fruit  | |  The First Commandment
15And the Lord God took the man, whom He molded, and He placed him in the paradise to work and to guard it. 16And the Lord God commanded Adam saying:
“From every tree in the paradise thou may eat food, 17but from the tree to know good and evil, eat not from it; and whichever day you eat from it, you shall die with death.” (Genesis 2:15-17)
Description of the Tree
6And the woman saw that the tree is good into food and that it is
pleasing to the eyes to see and it is beautiful to perceive, and having
taken of the fruit of it she ate; and she gave also to the man of her with
her, and they ate. (Genesis 2:6)
The Consequence of Violation
9And the Lord God called Adam and said to him:
“Adam, where art thou?”
10And he said to Him:
“I heard the voice of Thee walking in the paradise and I feared, because I
am naked, and I hid.”
11And He said to him:
“Who announced to thee that thou art naked? Is it not that from the tree, which I commanded to thee this only not to eat from it, thou ate?”
12And Adam said:
“The woman, whom thou gave to me with me, she herself gave to me from the tree, and I ate.” (Genesis 3:6-12)
Nothing at all is said that the fruit is apple which people refer to as the forbidden fruit.

They believe it was actually a pomegranate which is native to that part of the world.
A more liberal view point is the forbidden fruit was actually Adam and Eve eating animal flesh, bringing death to the Garden of Eden.

In the garden, there were fruit trees including the Tree of Life. Which God commanded Adam (not Eve) not to eat was the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
This is my first time to hear that more liberal view point that the forbidden fruit is the actual eating of animal flesh by Adam and Eve. If we go out of the Bible, there would be endless enumeration and conjectures.
