What do we call a female horse?

A female horse is called a mare. If she is a young horse still it's called a filly. A male horse is called a stallion and as a foal it is called a colt. If the boy horse has been cut (unable to breed) it is called a gelding. A foals father is called the sire and a foal's mother is called the dam. Blessings, Angela

A female horse is called mare. From mare I remember a famous saying:- "You are a tough mare and hard to straddle" So tell me are you also hard to straddle, have you ever tried stradding on someone, moving up and down i mean.

Female is called a mare-young female is a mare. They're called fillies usually up to age 3, although they can be called mares sooner than that.
