Who else thinks John Prine is a pretty cool guy  |

 Back when I was 16 or 17 I knew this long haired hippy guy that sang and played guitar. He sang these songs that I really liked by some guy named John Prine.
It wasn't until a few years later that I actually heard a John Prine song on the radio and instantly I knew who it was. Amazing how close my hippy friend was to sounding and playing because it was only a couple of notes and I knew who was on the radio.
I have been listening to John Prine ever since and that is 30 years or more now and I still can't get enough of him.
Now that I have learned how to play guitar (started when I was 47) I play his songs and introduce him to new people almost weekly.

Dear Abby and Whistling Fish...now those 2 can really get a party going...
How about Grand Pa was a carpenter...I love his music...

Where I live in Canada very few people know about John Prine. So I would say that just finding a few like minded individuals made signing up on myLot well worth while.

A couple of songs 'A hole in daddy's arm' and 'Six O'clock News' are two that I sometimes have a hard time playing and singing because they tend to bring a lump to my throat.
So many great songs. John Prine, I believe, is the artist I like the most song from. I don't know if I said that right. But I can't think of any other artist with more songs I like. The next in line though is definitely Jimmy Buffet. I actually have more Jimmy Buffet songs than JP songs. So it's pretty close between them. | |

I am just twitching now. Three people in one day that love John Prine. So glad I took my friends invite and joined myLot.
I am 54 and have been addicted to John Prine since I was about 16 years young.:)
There is so much life in his songs and when he does a duet it's always a blast.
I have so many happy memories when I listen to or think about his music.
It's hard to pick favorite but I love to play "Hello in there." on my guitar and that is always the first song I teach anyone to play.
John Prine has been a great companion in my music collection. | |

| 3. Lilhawkins8 (15) | 3 years ago |  I don't live in Canada, but almost. I saw JP here in Maine quite a few years ago and it was one of the best performances I've ever seen. I've been a fan ever since I picked up his first LP over thirty years ago. His words are sad, funny, catchy and sometimes you wonder how he's going to fit them into a line around the music, but he does in his own unique style. What comes through when he's singing on stage, is how much he loves what he does. That feeling just flows out to the audience and they give it right back to him. I'm so glad he conquered his health problems and came back stronger than ever.

I think John Prine doesn't get played on the radio very much because his songs sound like country music, but some of his themes and language he uses keep him from being played there. And the sound of it keeps him off other stations.
I love his humor and melancholy, and also the inventive use of language. Who would expect a song called Onomatopoeia, or a song about organ donation? (At least that's the way I see Please Don't Bury Me.) I have not been successful in getting any of my friends interested in him, but had a strange coincidence once with a stranger.
I was working in a store that had all instrumental music playing over an intercom. A customer asked me if I knew what that song was they were playing, he really liked it. Of all the people who worked there, I was the only one who would have known it was Angel From Montgomery.
