United States

I have always thought I'd want to celebrate watching the real ball fall... but now that I'm a little older and mature think I would enjoy it just as much from my couch! lol How many people have been able to participate in this historic event? How many would like to?

Unfortunately i have not celebrated new year in new york city, although if i had the chance i surely would. I have visited new york cioty and it was wonderful. I have always said i would love to be in new york city for new year, but not necessarily in the middle of Times Square, i think if i were in nyc for new year i would book a table at cafe Nicole overlooking Times square and watch it all from there because anyone who has visited cafe nicole knows it gives the classic view of Times Square at night which everyone all over the world knows and loves. Happy new year to all.

Yup, celebrated New Years Eve in Times Square with friends and lots of stranges in NY City was a blast! lol It's a momentum that I would never forget. I love crowds, therefore I enjoyed doing the 'counting down' on the New Years Eve there. It's one of those unforgettable moments.

I have never celebrated New Years in NY City but would love to do that. It would be a neat experience to do it at least once though it will be crowded and hard to get around. Sometimes I will go to a city here and watch the countdown but like you I prefer staying at home where it is warm and can watch everything on tv.

I'm only about 8 hours away myself. A bus trip wouldn't be a big deal but just something in me has never done it. Now to be honest with you, my bigger dream is to go to NYC for the Christmas season, just after they've put up and lit the tree in Rockefeller Center. I want to shop there in NYC at all the places we have heard of like Macys (I have one here but it's not the same! lol) and Gimbles and all those! After seeing the crowd on tv I too think I'm too claustrophobic for that!

I would have to pass if I had this oppertunity. I don't do very well in large cities or with crowds of people. I will stay in my small town in Northern Wisconsin and celebrate from the comfort of my living room.

NY City - New York City (officially the City of New York) is the most populous city in the United States and one of the major global cities of the world. The city's business, financial and trading organizations play a significant role in the economy of the nation and of the world and contribute to the largest regional economy in the country. The city is also one of the world's most important cultural centers and is the home of the United Nations.

New York City has a population of 8.1 million within a land area of 321 square miles (830 km²), making it the most densely populated city in North America. With a population of 18.7 million, the New York metropolitan area is one of the largest urban areas in the world.[3] The city is also the center of the so-called BosWash megalopolis, an urbanized region containing 45 million people and approximately 16 percent of the population of the United States.

New York City has been a center of the world's financial system since World War II and home to many of the world's most influential stock markets and financial institutions. In addition, it is the birthplace of many American cultural movements, including the Harlem Renaissance in literature and visual art, abstract expressionism in painting, and hip hop in music. The city's cultural vitality has been fueled by immigration since its founding by Dutch settlers in 1623. In 2005, 36.6% of the city's population was foreign born. New York City is also notable for having the lowest crime rate among the ten largest American cities.
