US continuance in Iraq is the answer..... What was the question???

So Saddam is now dead and the USA have decided to not only remain in Iraq but may possibly "step up" their campaign in the region. Is this the right thing to do? At the risk of being called a "Bush Basher" there are a few points that cause me to wonder what this is all about. Firstly, it was Al Qaeda and Bin Laden that caused 9/11 right? Yet all efforts were thrown at capturing Saddam..... Another pretense for invading Iraq was to recover weapons of mass destruction right? None were found..... The campaign was to be a small, rapid offense. They have been there for years now and will probably be there for years more. The Defence Secretary has resigned, the UN didn't sanction the offensive but the USA went ahead anyway; Bush has lost control of the senate..... It will be interesting to see how the future pans out in regards to all of this. I am interested to hear points of view, especially from Americans. It is commendable the loyalty shown to your President but taking all of that out of the equation have these been rational events? Why is the US really there? If there had of been stronger candidates in opposition would Bush have been re elected? If Clinton had of been able to serve a third term would Bush have been elected? Is it maybe time to remove the US troops from Iraq and let them sort everything out internally, is the US presence actually increasing hostilities rather than allowing internal unity to naturally occur?

First let me say that I didn't vote for Bush and never would.. I believe he was put into office because of errors and glitches, but that is my opinion.. I would have voted for Clinton if he had of been able to run again and if he had of run again, Bush would not have stood a chance.. I also do not know why Saddam was targeted instead of Bin Laden, but when I did read of things that Saddam was doing to the citizens of his country then I do agree with his punishment even though it was too little, too late.. I believe Bin Laden should face the same fate as Saddam, he is a hate monger and a terrorist and is teaching the small children of his country to hate and fear the Americans, that is so wrong.. He wants us to leave him and his country alone, well he needs to do the same.. I do wish the war was over, I believe every country should take care of themselves and the UN should be dismantled, I believe as Americans we should take care of ourselves because we are judged to be wrong no matter what we do.. Many people do not like us, so I say we stay home and build up our country, we do have a great country, and keep our money and our companies at home also.. We do not need to send billions to other countries.. We need to toughen up and make our country the best there is.. It is a great place to live.. I believe that all of our boys should come home and be left alone to live their lives in peace and harmony.. I don't think that our young boys or children, should have to be fighting in useless, senseless wars alone when we have so many illegal immigrants coming into our country who have the best of our country but none of the responsibilities.. I say, let every country do its own thing as long as they leave us alone.. I say that we should all live in peace and harmony and allow other countries to do the same.. I honestly don't think that the USA needs to be made responsible for the mistakes of other countries, I say we live and let live, but it has to be a two way street, we need to defend ourselves very vigorously when ever the situation arises.. God Bless each and everyone of us as we need his Blessings so much right now.. Sorry about being so long winded but these are my beliefs..

I also would have been intrigued to see how someone like Clinton would have handled 9/ll compared to Bush..... Interestingly enough since I posted this topic a very long time ago the new elections are fast approaching. And of course one of the focuses of both front runners is related to how and when to extract the US from Iraq. So better late than never! But it is somewhat of a catch 22 now as well. Foreogn forces are so heavily entrenched in the region that to just remove them suddenly would cause a massive flow on effect and leave them vulnerable. And as for apologising for the length of your response...... I am certain that you are not alone in your frustration regarding this issue! I am not American but it has been very interesting to see the sway of public opinion change dramatically from the Bush Administrations first term compared to its second! Thanks for responding.
