Did your state pass new laws at the beginning of 2007?   

I agree that all states should raise the minimum wage, but I don't think it is going to happen anytime soon where I am. The only new law that I am ware of from 2007 in Louisiana is a law that bans smoking in a lot of places. Most places on the list were banned already (mall, library, etc). One of the places is a privately owned car where a child under 12 is transported. You can get fined on this even if the kid isn't in the car. I think that is a bit extreme.

Thanks for the link to the site. I do not watch much news because I am normally too busy with other things. But you link made me take a moment to view headlines and watch some videos.
Even though not listed in the CNN report, the state where I am living, Oklahoma, is actually starting the new year with lower taxes. Which that sounds great because the tax on our house and cars nearly kill us. But we will not be seeing the difference of the lowered tax until later this year. I sure hope it lowers it significately!!!

Yes they raised it only by a dollar more i think.

Here are the new laws for New York state that I know of. Several new laws go into effect today in New York. One is an increase in the minimum wage. The new minimum wage is 7 dollars, 15 cents per hour, up from six seventy five. While the increase is good for workers, business owners expect the hike in the pay rate to lead to lost revenues, highter costs for supplies, and ultimately higher prices for consumers. Other new laws across the state include an end to the so-called "marriage penalty" by increasing the standard deduction for married couples filing taxes. A new law requiring insurers to provide more mental health coverage in New York also went into effect at midnight. Although most health insurers already provide care to varying degrees, Timothy's Law requires offering it to workers even in small businesses. The state is to pay the premium increase for companies with 50 or fewer employees.

I don't know about our state but locally, in our city, they passed a law to go into effect some time in January for curfew for minors. I can't wait to see how that works! I hope it works out but I have such serious doubts because the kids out there roaming are the ones their parents don't care about anyways. So the parents will be the ones that could care less and not pick the kids up. Although there are fines involved after so many times also. We'll see!

You would think that they would raise the min wage. Its been a long time coming. Its amazing that people still start work for 5.00 an hour these days and its 2007. I hope this year brings a lot of good fortune to a lot of people. Times are only getting harder and its time that the administration starts to accommidate.

i live in mississippi i wish they would raise ours but i know it won't happen until it is federally done
