I don't think it hurt Christianity in any way, honestly. I'm Christian, and I loved the movie. I couldn't get through the book - too dry - but the movie was wonderful. Anyone who honestly believes the movie is fact is an idiot, and that's all there is to it. It's fantasy, a 'what if', like all those books that play on various religious mythos. And it's not the first movie or book to put forth the idea that Jesus had a child - the Scion idea has been around for ages.
