What is your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite memory to recall is collecting Ladybugs and Japanese Beetles from my Grandmothers Flower Garden.

Oh what fun we used to have. First we would collect all the japanese beetles we could find and put them in a jar. The one who got the most got a nickel. My grandfather would then dispose of them as they ate the leaves of the roses.
Then we would collect all the ladybugs we could find and the winner of that got a nickel. We would then release the ladybugs as they were good for the garden.

After dinner my grandfather would take us for a ride and we would go to the country store and get penny candy. We all got a nickel to spend, but the winners always had extra to spend. I usually won the ladybug contest as I didn't like the way the japanese beetles would cling to your skin...yuk..lol
How about your childhood?

I have several fond memories of my childhood, but one particular one involves staying at my Grandmother's house.

My Grandad had a long garden in which he kept chicken at the bottom, flowers in the right-hand border and fruit bushes and vegetables in the wider, left-hand garden. Those were the good old days, huh?

My Grandad was great... every time I went there, he would put to work his woodwork experience and always make me something to play with. I recall him, over the years, making me the following playthings... a doll's house, a cart, stilts, a penny-roller (like those you find in a fairground), a box, in which to keep things i treasured, (he painted this with flowers on), a yo-yo, a football rattle, a skipping rope and probably numerous other things I've forgotten. I was spoiled by my Grandfather. He was the first person ever to take me to London and to a Football match.

I loved him so much. He was a great Grandad and whenever I went to visit, he would take my hand and take me out-back to his shed, to show me what he'd been making for me. Then, as soon as I had that, he would start on the next.

Such fond memories. Thank you, Mari, for such a lovely topic of discussion and warm, warm memories of my Grandfather. :-)

i have alot of nice memories related to my childhood. but i think the one i will never forget is related to my grandfather. he wasn't my biological grandfather but he has always been there for me, unlike my biological one whom i don't even know. anyway he had a house at the countryside and his mother used to plant tullips each year. hundreds of them. one year he came back from the countryside around the end of april or the beggining of may with his arms full of tullips. because he had missed my birthday (wich is almost at the end of april) he had brought me a late present. he's arms full of tullips ... more than a hundred i think. since he passed away almost 3 years ago this is the dearest memory i have with hm

My Pepa would pay us for crawdads (aka crawfish). Us girls would go get them from under rocks in the muddy banks. We would get paid for the size of them. Small ones got a nickel, medium sized got a dime, and the "big daddies" got a quarter! He would then use them as fishing bait the next morning!

You're all going to think that there's something not quite right with me, but my favourite childhood memory -- which is also my very first one -- was when I watched the first steps of Man on the moon. It was the middle of the night where I was, and I was sitting on the tiled floor in front of my parents' black-and-white television. I was so impressed by what I was witnessing... but then again, all kids are pretty impressionable! ;)

Yes I remember that day vividly myself. It was a very excitng thing to see, quite impressive to those of us that were kids at the time.

I had a few, One new family, After I was adopted took me up to Baraboo, Wisconsin to Ride the Autumn Train my first real offical train ride. My parents did not know I snuck on trains elsewhere though I was only 6 years old at the time :) ... That tied with my adoption party was awesome too. We had so many people there. I still to this day have no idea. As Not only were my sister and I both adopted at the same time. But we were adopted to Two Different families. So we had both families at our party, althought I was kind of a brat, and did not want to Dance with Dad... in front of everyone. I admit I was shy, I didn't want everyone to see how I was dressed, and by the end of the dance I was sick of the words.. "Aw, how cute" lol... But the party still out of all the parties I ever been to or had, was the funnest, party I ever been too.

I had alot of fun as a child. More than I ever can seem to have as an adult although I have not lost my courage to be silly, explore, or keep people wondering about me.

Like the one day dad caught me riding down the stairs I thought no one was home. So I slid down the stairs on my rear because I felt like doing so had not down so for forever and my toe hurt anyhow lol...

I see him stop watching me midway scratching his head.. "Oh I dunno about you" Or when I am caught dancing around to music in my head lip syncing. Hey that was one of my favorite childhood activities Dancing to Prince and the Revolution! ... Or when I am working my legs to get them used to some Native Steps, as the Spirits want me to get my legs ready for the spring and summer season. The Rain Spirits require I dance alot when them, So sitting all winter can make you outta shape. So when I think Everyone is gone Dad will come in and see me dancing on my tippy toes wondering what I am up to now giggles.

That has not changed much.... Other favorite childhood memory was sneaking into the woods and jumping out of the trees holding the grapevines or tying them to our feet. My African-American Brothers taught me how to do this.... We'd take turns doing so. So recently when they started the going tribal series on TV. My Dad and I watch them doing that, and It brings back lots of good memories in the woods. Till one Day dad came in there and I was hanging from the bottom of the Vine upside down with my feet tied to it giggles..... He was not to happy about that :) .... But we had a fun day.
