written in 2006 - you just have to have read them in 2006.

For me its:

1. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
2. The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
3. A Home at the End of the World by Michael Cunningham
4. Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs

Well for me the best I read this past year would be:

1. The Deed of Pakesennerion by Elizabeth Moon
2. The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons by Dan Brown
3. The Adept Series by Deborah Turner Harris and Katherine Kurtz
4. Harry Potter (I reread the series this past year)
5. Xanth Series by Piers Anthony (read a few books from it this year)

I'd recommend them all to anyone. They are all very good.

My brother read Angels and Demons before Da Vinci Code. He said Angels and Demons is a lot better.

I think I only read 4 books in 2006.

They were....

"A Swiftly Tilting Planet" Madeline L'Engle
"Stardust" by Neil Gaiman
"Enders Game" by Orson Scott Card
"On The Road" by Jack Kerouac

myLot reputation of 96/100. Withoutwings (4690)   ranked 1 out of 10,255 in reading  3 years ago

Did you like Stardust? I read it a few years ago. I seem to remember liking it.

myLot reputation of 88/100. cremechese (4503)   ranked 918 out of 10,255 in reading  3 years ago

On the Road! If you had only read ONE book last year, that would have been the one. A classic. If you liked that one, try William S. Burroughs as well as Lawrence Ferlinghetti. I think you would enjoy them.

myLot reputation of 94/100. Eborsisk (130)   ranked 997 out of 10,255 in reading  3 years ago

I liked Stardust alot. I would probably like more Neil Gaiman stuff. My boyfriend is a fan of his.

And "On The Raod" is my first Jack Kerouac book. I will be reading more by him because I enjoyed it.

Gosh! Just four books? And the bad thing is, I have a horrible time remembering the names...including names of books! LOL
OK...and not necessarily in this order...
1. Harry Potter Goblet of Fire (wanted to read it before seeing the movie)
2. Immortal high witch series...again by Maggie Shayne (Eternity, Infinity, Destiny, and Immortality) I love this series too much I will probably re-read it every year.
3. Speak by Laurie Halse-Anderson (It was something my daughter read and she wanted me to read.)
4. Wildy Winston by Lori Foster (4 anthologies taken from the orginal anthology compilation to make one book about the Winston brothers. An awesme book...but I actully had to by 1 anthology and another that had the three...they published the Wildy Winston with the 4 stories and it was not here locally...so I had to buy two books to equal one. But hey! That better than buying 4 different anthologies!:)

1. Smilla's Sense of Snow - Danish author Peter Hoeg. This book was written in I believe 1992? but somehow I missed this gem! The cover says a "major motion picture" was made of this story. Has anybody seen it?

2. The whole Harry Potter series. I no longer have kids at home and hadn't picked one up. My niece loaned them to me and I was instantly hooked.

3. The General's Daughter - Nelson DeMille. Got addicted to this author as well. His characters are witty and you'll CARE about them. The stories are full of thrills and surprises and twists.

4. Plum Island - Nelson DeMille.

I've very much enjoyed the Temeraire series (Naomi Novik I think), and I've reread the Earth's Children series (Jean Aeul), otherwise I've mostly read non fiction this last year.

Jean Aeul's books are pretty good, eh? I like them.
