Again, I'll agree that this probably not their mosr famous song.
For those unaware of the song, the album version starts with an excert from the Rogers & Hammerstein musical 'Carousel', played on the organ. Then the more recognisable guitar of Mark Knopfler kicks in.
The lyrics are based around a teenage/young man growing up as part of a travelling fair or carnival, as can be seen from the opening lyric £Getting crazy on the Wultzer, but it's the life that I choose."
The song then develops into his guilt at loving a leaving the young girls he would meet along the way.
In terms of tbe meaning of Dire Straits, it's a latin origin, which I believe means to be in trouble.
