appreciate some of your points. But about the origin of freedom, I’m afraid I can’t fully agree. First, freedom did not come out of nowhere in America. As we all know, America was originally inhabited by native Indians. It is the early European immigrants and settlers that brought with them the idea to the new continent. Although some of them were eager to find a new freedom which was different from that in Europe, it was hard for them to get rid of the strong European influence.e.g, The earlist arrivals to New England, the dissenters of the Anglican church. Their quest for freedom and local autonomy embodied in The Mayflower Compact, found great resemblance to the creed of the Congregationalism in the Reformation. Second, there are a lot of evidences saying that American freedom had its prototype from Europe.e.g., John Locke ‘s theory of freedom laid the foundation of The Constitution of the United States; Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s idea of ‘Freedom, Equality and Fraternity’ ignited the flame of independence during the Ameircan revolution…Third, Europe is more than Britain and France, Geramany, Swiss also played important roles. Eg. The religous belief of Rebapitizers in Zwingli’s time had great impact on the early immigrants to America
