Is Country Music going downhill? Are the fans leaving? | | A few years country music was hitting the charts, scoring cross-over hits and Garth, Tim McGraw, Faith and Shania were all the rage in the US. Now it seems that has all settled down and there are no true country "Superstars" setting the pace.
Have the dixie chicks been the tide that turned the country or is it just not as good music as we had a few years ago, or were there just some fair weather, fad of the year fans that have since disappeared??

Take the period from 1960-1979 for example, you had people like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, George Jones, Tammy Wynette,Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and so many others that were every bit as popular as your Carrie Underwoods and Tim McGraws today. In some cases more so. They were charting MONSTER hits like Stand By Your Man Coal Miners Daughter, and who were building a solid reputation by singing songs that we still enjoy today. Then in the early 80s there was a dip in popularity and a few new singers emerged who havent had the career longevity that the previous generation had. Then in the late 80s three people emerged: Strait, McEntire and Randy Travis. I think this new generation is just getting started and building themselves to fit the tastes of listeners now. What's interesting now though, is that you have people my age and younger, who are listening more and more to the songs that their parents grew up on.

Hello?! "Earl had to die?!" I think country music is growing because of some of the crossover hits! Kenny Chesney has one of the all time top selling tours!
