ok. who prefers what, and why? i like freshwater, because it is more easily accessible, and found everywhere. but at the same time, i like saltwater, because there are much larger fish to be caught. i like catching very large fish. ironically, the biggest fish i have caught are freshwater. whcih do you prefer?

Unfortunately, I've never had the pleasure of saltwater fishing. I'm landlocked and have never been to the ocean. I's sure like to give it a try, though. If, of course, I can get my hubby to get his butt out and fish with me! He's a little, um...jumpy, around fish that aren't in an aquarium.

well, sounds like you should take him to a lake or a river or something. all the guys in my family love to go fishing. just ask sksouth. that is my father. we all fish. he has gotten some pretty fantastic catches, as a matter of fact!!!!

Oh, believe me I've tried! We have a bunch of lakes around here, and I've dragged him to the little spot my grandpa always took me to when I was a kid. He just doesn't get the appeal, though, and he doesn't like touching them. I've just about given up on him. I'll have to wait a few years till my son's old enough to go and teach him to love it while he's young.

well, go for it. get him into it early, and hopefully it will catch on with him. it worked with me. my 2 brrothers aren't as into fishing as me or my dad, but they do go occasionally

I just love fishing, whether it's freshwater or saltwater. In freshwater, we caught an alligator gar in excess of 7 feet. My favorite fish to catch in freshwater is the Large Mouth Black Bass. This is the most challenging fish to catch, I think.
When it comes to saltwater, we live about an hours drive from the gulf and we go there once in a while. A few years back I had started to go Deep Sea fishing quite often. The biggest fish I caught out there was a 4 foot grouper. Mostly what you catch out there is Red snapper.

never caught a snapper. i have caught a few small sharks, a couple gafftops, and an assortment of other saltwater fish. it is nice to just go there, throw a line in the water, and just chill out, waiting for something to bite.

I have never been salt water fishing I know my brothers have .My brothers wife has went once she loved it the other time she was sea sick the whole time the sea was the same both times so she had no idea what the difference was .I would be afraid I would get sick then be at sea the rest of the day no way to land .I do enjoy both lake and river fishing I love both fishing for rainbow trout and catfish not a bass fishing fan though .

rainbow trout are fun, and catfish fight hard, but tire quickly. saltwater fish have more energy, and fight harder and longer. just ask SKSOUTH the longest it took him to land a fish.

i like both. i like freshwater cause i can fish anytime cause my grandpa has a fresh water pond in his back yard which is cool and i can go with my bf. > :) and i like saltwater cause i can fish off the dock (since i dont have a boat) and just be at peace and just think about things in a calm setting. it is like a home away from home where my mind can just be free of cares

Nothing is better than catching BIG fish in saltwater! 80 lb halibut, 120 lb skate, salmon, shark. Salmon can e caught in both freshwater and saltwater, however the fight is always more intense in saltwater. But then you need to have access to a boat, which we no longer do. Therefore we are now stuck with freshwater fishing. If fishing for trout - use ultralight tackle, it makes it more of a challenge - just don't give the fish a tonsilectomy when setting the hook! LOL

There are people who swear by freshwater and I am sure there are equal number who would hear of nothing but Seawater. One the important part about fishing is the amount of menatl peace that it can give you. That happens more in landlocked places. Purely from this point of view, fresh water scores points more than sea water.

In my area of Louisiana you access fresh lakes and rivers and still hit the coast. My answer Saltwater, theres always something to be caught in the big blue even if its no trophy your still reelin em in. You could search for bass all day an never get a nibble. I love the ocean!

I think I'd prefer freshwater fishing...I've never been saltwater fishing, though I've been on the ocean...It kind of scares me to think about what I might catch, like a shark---too scary for me...It's an accomplishment for me to be able to handle a pike, I can't imagine having a fish that weighs as much as my kids with big teeth! Plus if I'm bending over the boat to bring in the fish, I'd rather fall in fresh water, with the shore in sight!

i love catching sharks. i have only caught a few, with a few good size ones that got away, but still. ever try fishing for bull reds? they are 3-4 ft long, and don't have teeth like a shark. or perhaps jack cravelles. those are fun too. my dad caught a huge one a while back.
