Do you have to get your dogs' toenails ground down?

Both of my dogs have black toenails and my pit bull Floyd's nails grow REALLY fast! Right now they're almost claws, so tomorrow he's going to Pet Smart to have his nails ground down with a Dremel. My jack russell terrier (both dogs are mixed breeds) doesn't need her nails cut as often (actally hers were quite short this visit). Anyone else have this problem?

I don't go to have my dog's nails trimmed. I trim them myself when they need it. I have 3 American Pit Bull Terriers & a APBT/Lab mix & their nails do grow quite fast. But if you keep up on trimming them you won't have to get them ground down.

Thank you--I wish I was strong enough to trim his but it's tough! His grow soooo fast! Do you have pictures of your dogs?

My dogs have been used to me trimming their nails since they were puppies. Now they just lay there for me while I trim their nails. It's not that hard. Pictures of my dogs are in my profile. Do you have pictures of your dogs?

Your dogs are so adorable! I have pictures in my profile too--my dd took them (Floyd and Bella will get up in your face when there's a camera involved). Aren't you worried about getting too close to the quick of their nails? That's what has me worried.
