do you think movies like the old time musicals would be popular today?

I just love the old musicals like the ones with Gordon McRae, Bing Crosby, etc. I love the soundtracks from these old movies. I know Hollywood has produced modern ones like Grease, etc., but even that was a while back. I know too, that a few "musicals" have been made here and there, but they used to be so popular! Would you like to see musicals being done again? Do you think they would be as popular as they were "back in the day"?

I love musicals especially ones with Gene Kelly or Howard Keel, two of my favorite actors for the musicals. I think they could do them today without a problem if they wanted. I know recently they did a remake of The Music Man with Matthew Broderick. They do make some modern ones but I agree not that many, not like they used to make. I think if they wanted to they could again without a problem and people would still go. The songs have a tendency to stick with us even after we finish watching it.

I think there is a BIG fan base for old musicals. the world is getting older and the majority of the poplulation will be senior citizens this year than any other year in the past. So, yes I think old musicals would work. Maybe Hollywood is thinking about this too.

maybe. i for one would like to see them again. even if they're remakes, doesn't matter, as long as it's a musical.

I loved the older musicals. And no, I can't say "a musical is a musical". You can't really put something like "Chicago" in the same category as one of the Bing Crosby, or Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly shows...the content of the show is much more mature nowadays. I think I prefer the older ones. I did notice once when I watched a really old musical movie, that they seemed really long and drawn out, not like modern ones we're used to. That would be a drawback to this generations' fast-food mentality...we'd get bored.
