last year my dad was diagnosed with cancer, at first a lump formed in his throat, we all thought its just benign tumor or something, we consulted a doctor and had lab test. The doc says that my dad have cancer and must have an operation to remove his larynx,he had undergone laryngectomy coupled with radiation. before the operation we all thought that it will be just a small operation, we haven't have any clue what will happen after the operation, we just want our dad alive no matter what the risk, my dad also doesn't hAVE any idea. after the operation, we ALL had a major shock of our lives, seeing my dad with many tubes stuck in his throat, blood being constantly pump in and out, my dad can't move his whole body, my mom cried the whole night. the doctor said that my dad can no longer speak as we do. but there was hope that through the use of an electrolarynx, or by esophageal speech (were one uses burp sounds) he can be again normal. But my dad was never again the same man we new, after the operation, taking care of him got worse, he always looses his appetite, his always tired, he lose his will to live. because of his continuing deterioration. we have to confine him in a hospital. the doctor said that he has major depression. with all that has happened to him, the family gets affected the most..my mom doesn't know what to do.. sometimes.. i just stare outside my window, my mind blank.. what can i do?? how can i help?? pls help me.
