Is it wrong for a doctor to give someone a time in which they will die?

I feel it is wrong for a doctor to take away hope from people. Yes they should know that whatever they have has been proven to be terminal but stop there. No one needs to be told the doctors best guess on how long they have to live. I think it makes them give up hope, even puts them on a count down. It just isn't right. I have and aunt that was given about a year and it has been 6 years now. Her doctors are shocked but as soon as they gave up on her she gave up on them and found alternatives to help her. I think doctors should keep their best guesses to themselves what about you?

I'd rather a doctor gave me a timeframe. I'd rather think 'okay, here's what they think, let's see if I can go longer' than constantly wondering when it'll happen, how far along I am, am i wasting time, etc etc. I'd rather have a date to try and beat than to have no idea whatsoever.

Thats a good way to look at it but if they told you to keep fighting instead okay your done in six months your spitits would stay lifted and that is important.
