Should a 3 year old ride the school bus? |
| |
| Maybe I am being a little too paranoid about this. My 3 year old son is in pre-k. All the other kids in his class rides the school bus. I take him to and from school. I have a 5 month old that can't get over a cold and I think it is from getting in and out of this freaky weather. It will be 65 degrees one day and 40 the next with the wind blowing. My mother suggested that he ride the bus. I told her that I did not believe in the saftey of school busses when it comes to little kids. The law is any kid that is 8 or 80 pounds should be in a car seat or a booster seat. My son is still in a car seat. He is 36 pounds.I just do not think that it is safe for him. Maybe I am just being an over protective mother. What do you guys think? | | | | | |

| | Well, the good news is that the weather it's self doesn't cause colds and viruses. It has however not cooled down enough to get rid of those pesky molds and pollens. Viruses also thrive best in cl weather but it's not the weather it's self. I know it seems like every time I get me 2 yr old out she seems to catch something. Remeber good hand washing will help the baby immensely. As for the little one at age three riding a bus? I would not recomend it. I didn't like my son at 4 and 5 riding for field trips so I went with him on the bus. I think your mommy senses are right. | | | | | | |

| | With the stories that have appeared in the news lately, where a child was left behind on the bus after the driver has finished their route, only to be found later, I don't blame you for not wanting him to ride the bus. Now, are we talking about a big yellow school bus, or are we talking about a smaller, van type of bus? Regardless, I think that at the age of 3, I would rather drive my child to pre-k, and let the other parents worry about their children. | | | | | | |

| | I have a friend who has a 3 year old son that rides the bus to his school. He has a lady from his school that rides on the bus with the students, as well as the bus driver. He loves the bus a lot. It just comes down to your feelings on the safety of the bus. I also agree that children should be in a booster seat, atleast, on the bus - though once my daughter gets to that age I'll probably have her ride the bus as well. If you don't feel comfortable about him riding the bus, than I say you should continue taking him to and from school yourself. It may be a pain, but atleast you know he's getting there and home safely. | | | | | | |

| | Personally I would not put a 3 y/o on a bus with a relative on the bus too. My older girls are almost 6 & 7 1/2 & would not want them riding the bus to school alone at this point. I walk them to & from school every day. I also have a baby & understand how the weather is affecting them (she is going on 3 weeks). How far away is the school? Is there anyone else that could possibly take him to school or watch the baby for you? | | | | | | |

| | The school is 15 minutes away I am not sure how many miles. We live in the country. I do not have anyone to come over to watch the baby or take my son to school. So, it kind of looks like I'm stuck. It is neat that you live that close to the school.(and it gives you a morning workout without even trying!) | | | |

| | A very good friend of mine is a school bus driver. I understand your feelings about the carseat. The thing is if the bus is a small bus most of them have seatbelts in the small busses. It is the larger busses that dont have seatbelts. MY youngest is starting pre-k as well and in my town they dont have the bus pick-up anymore causethey couldent fit it in there budget. Honestly what I think you should do is meet the school bus driver and ask him/her some questions and then take it from there. | | | | | | |

| | i agree with you...my son is 4 and hasn't gone to pre school mostly because i don't want him on a school bus. he's also in a booster seat as well at only 49lbs. i just don't feel comfortable with my children riding by themselves. i've seen too many things on tv about fights and abuse on the school bus...its scary, which is why i'm saving up to buy a car for myself so i can take my son to K when he starts, then my other son will probably go to pre school as well in that time. me, i never took a bus to school (well not a school bus, i took a regular bus sometimes during inter, but i was old enough) but my parents took me to elementry school until i was old enough to walk home myself...which was like in 4th-5th grade. i dont' think you're being over protective...you're just smart. | | | | | | |

| | this is true... school buses dont even use seat belts... if you feel more comfortable taking your child to school do so, and see if maybe you can leave your 5 month old with someone still at home, or a neighbor. | | | | | | |

| | Wow, that seems so young! I don't think I would be comfortable doing that and would prefere to take my child myself until they are a bit older. I hope your baby gets better soon! | | | |

| | I'm with you. I think 3 is a little too young to be riding the school bus (these things are notoriously unsafe even for older kids). Whe my son was in pre-k I took him to and from school every day | | | | | | |

| | I wouldn't let a 3 y/o ride the bus. I really don't like the school bus anyway. Unless they are different from when I was growing up I wouldn't let my children ride the bus at all if I could help it. | | | | | | |
