children should be taught to know about volunteering

The subject of what children and teenagers ahould know about volunteering - and what we can about adequeting them differently - keep croping up for me. Carol Weisman's new book, Raising Charitable Children, does a wonderful job of discussing the issue. Then, two weeks ago, I gave a short talk at the annual summer camp of spark the wave,a youth-lead organisation devoted to "enpower team to be better volunteer". i opened my presentation by asking the group of 14 to 17 yrs old, "what's a volunteer?" No surprise - their response was as narrow and limited as you would expect, centering largely "helping people in need."
