Is this tacky?

I was on a message board forum where some ladies were talking about putting money in a condolence card. A friends husband had died and they felt it was tacky to put money in a condolence card?
What do you think? Is it tacky or thoughtful?

You know I never would have thought of it that way. I was going more along the way of this would help with unexpected expenses.
But when you put it that way.. Best to stick with bring over a hot dish or flowers.
