If your local pro sports team wanted a new stadium...  

No they can use the money for better things.

I have a problem subsidizing big business and i am a huge sportsfan. The owners are lining their pockets and want us to invest in the business plus pay megabucks to watch the games live. Next we will be subsidizing the athletes salaries directly.

I wonder if the Chargers success this season can affect the outcome of this issue. They've made it to the playoffs, and got a bye week. If they make it to the AFC Championship game, the Superbowl, or win the Superbowl are they more likely to get permission to build the stadium? What do you think?

I think that the real question is whether they need a new one, although I guess if it is all with private money, then the city shouldn't care. I live near Pittsburgh, and the Penguins have been begging for a new stadium for years. They even want to use the city's money. I guess that if they are able to get the investors for it, then they should be allowed to do it.

I don't think a new stadium is necessary. And I don't think the Chargers will leave San Diego. What's wrong with Qualcomm? I personally like that stadium. The Padres didn't need a new stadium either. I like that stadium better than Petco but I know it was more of a 'football' stadium. Even if the city did have the money togive them they could spend it on other things. But if they are offering to buy it themselves then they should go ahead and let them.

yes if they wanted a new stadium, like my fav team in uk footbal, liverpool, they want a new staidum on the grounds in stanley park however they are nt allowed to build the stadium they want, and due to no building permission have lost alot of money getting people to build a model of the stadium to the clubs needs but also the community, and the local council said no, the club are also going to pay for the stadium from there own money, people need to get a grip, no taxpayers are going to lose out and less likely to gain as they would have more tickets to go see matches there

Since the city owns the land and statium, maybe the city would approve such a project if the Chargers owners were to either rent/buy the land and then pay for its construction. In that way there would be money in the city's coffers rather than a burden on the taxpayers.

I have no info on this subject. One question I would ask is whether the city has any objections of a new stadium built on the same location. By forcing the Chargers to go into the suburbs does that mean that they have not submitted plans for possible locations or if they have does it applied to local urbanization rules. It somehow doesn't sound logical that the city would turn down an offer like that out of hand. There must be something that is holding plans up and that information has not yet leaked to the public.

Football is big business and draws large crowds. Paying admission is not the only expense a sports fan usually has especially if they are out of towners. It certainly boosts the local economy to some extent...a fact I'm certain that any city would take into account of such a proposition.

I wish the Charger fans all the luck and I sincerely hope that they get a new stadium wherever it may wind up.

What is it to the city if they are paying for it. I realize that permits and things are needed, but geez. They won't be out any money, so who cares.
