So, who's been to Ukraine lately? Tell us what you thought, why you were there, and if you'd go back again. All of us have different circumstances.
We went last year (2005) to adopt. The country was very interesting and most of the people we met were, as well. But, since we were there for an adoption, the process was a little, taxing. I suppose, I'd be willing to go back some day, though. If I do, I want to see more sights.
We spent most of our time in Kiev, but did travel to the south for the process. We made it as far south as Odessa. The train rides were all at night, so we didn't get to see much of the countryside. We went once by car and it was lovely. I grew up in farming country, Oklahoma and Kansas, but I have never seen soil so rich as in Ukraine. It was literally black.

Adoption from Ukraine? That must be very expensive. I have few friends from Ukraine. Nice people.

Ukraine is actually one of the least expensive countries to adopt from. It's about $10,000 cheaper than Russia, India or Guatemala.
It worked out great for us. We had many, many people who donated to help it happen, then God worked out the rest through other grants. It's been an interesting adventure in our lives, that's for sure!

We spent several weeks there in summer 2006 as we were travelling round the whole of the Black Sea over 14 weeks.
Mostly we were in Crimea but we also saw Kherson, Odessa, Chernivtsi, Kamanyets Podilsky and a few other towns in the west.
The Crimea is especially amazing - so much history - cave cities, the Khan's Palace, Sevastopol, Chekhov's house, Livadia Palace where Churchill, Rooosevelt and Stalin met - just so much to see. Then there are the beaches - not comfortable but a real experience to watch Ukrainians on holiday - very different to what I'm used to.
I hope to be able to get to Kiev next time but do strongly recommend the Crimea as an excellent place to tour and experience some of the history of Ukraine.
