Chinese paintings have an individuality of their own and the brush work immediately attracts the viewers
In the first century AD,with the spread of Buddhism into China and the building of Temples ,the art of painting religious Murals took birth in China.the range of subject matters dealt with figure painting was extended far beyond religious themes during Sung regime (960-1127 ).Historical characters and characters in every day life started gaining importance.Subsequently lead to a refinement of painting techniques.
Land scape painting in china had taken to two distinct forms."Blue and green landscapes",and "ink and wash landscapes". In the blue and green landscapes.while the blue and green landscapes utilized colors derived from minerals,ink and wash paintings were extremely depended on the artist's brush handling skills and the intensity of the ink.
flower and Bird painting was separated from decorative art, to form an independent genre around 9th century.Sung dynasty has witnessed a boom of this genre with flowers,fruits,insects bamboos and a variety of herbs as the themes.The common feature in all the paintings is "economy of line".
Modern painters of China often mix several colors on one brush or mix colors with black ink resulting in rich and vibrant shades.
