Good question. When I see toddlers wearing camouflage clothing in Wal-Mart I tend to think that they probably are not:
A) Going hunting, B) Coming from hunting, or C) Interested in hunting. Frequently my thought is that this is merely a fashion statement by the person wearing it, or their parent.
My thought on this is: If I don't care whether I get shot at or not because someone mistakenly thought I was a game animal, it's my choice.

My dad tought me to hunt when i was a little kid. I have been hunting all my life and have been very sucessful and I have never once worn camo.
In my oppinion sitting in the brush wearing camo is sorta like cheating when it comes to hunting. Im not putting down those of you who wear camo because my very best friend wears camo, but I think it takes the fun out of it.

I agree,my dad taught me to hunt as well and I have never worn camo and have been quite successful taking alot of small game, deer, turkey, etc. i have even sat right out in the open on a deer trail and arrowed a deer at 5 yards away, and of course no camo on. i have done the same thing with turkeys as well. My best friend wears camo and that is fine with me, i believe being still and quiet as well as watching the wind direction and all those factors are more important then color. I prefer to wear coveralls in dark navy blue and that blends in well with surroundings like shadows and trees. i believe alot of the camouflage is a money making racket but if people want to use it ok by me, but not me.

I think you can be successful without camo and its your choice to go with or without. I hunt alot of different types of animals and some animals are alot more familiar with their surroundings than others. Deer are very cautious but if you hunt from a treestand and your well above their eyesight, you can get by without camo. I always wear camo when I bowhunt for Deer and it is most useful when sneaking through the woods when your on the deers level.

I hunt with navy blue coveralls and have shot deer, turkey, with bow and arrow as well with shotgun, i hunt in a state where rifles are only used for squirrels and varmints. I have even sat wide open and shot deer with a bow and turkey with shotgun. i use no decoys, 20 gauge shotgun with high brass 2 3/4 inch shells, # 6 shot which is a load for small game. No super loads and i give the game all chances, i do not use blinds either. If people use all these things fine, but the challenge of getting game the hard way is what gives me great joy, even when i have little time to hunt, good hunting!

I have done alot of hunting in the last 41 years and i have never wore camo as a matter of fact most of my friends say I was a little nuts because before orange was mandatory in pa. I always wore natural colore like black or brown pants and a brown or tan jacket. My most used weapons for big game are a 22/250,a 50cal. cap and ball rifle, or a 44 mag. revolver, I also archery hunt with a recurve and a compond bow until my back and shoulder started acting up then i switched to a crossbow, all in all in the last 40 years i did not wear camo and i have bagged a deer doe or buck every yyear except 3,1 bear, about 10 turkeys, and 1 wild boar. If you know your area and the game you are hunting a little sence and stay downwind is all you need.

camo wear is not necessary in hunting but it makes the hunter more confident. after all, he believes if one can't see the hunter the prey would not either. the indians didn't wear camo then, did they?
however, if you are a passive hunter, it is better to wear camo, to reduce the probablility of you being seen by the prey. animals may see in black and gray colors only but they recognize shapes that are out of place in their immediate area.

I was taught by my father that camouflage was a part of hunting. Wearing it lets everyone know that you enjoy hunting and I for one take pride in that. Hunting is something that we do for fun and for food. Around where I hunt everyone wears it and if you see someone hunting without it it seems strange and very out of place. Camo does help you blend in with your surroundings but it can also keep you safe from other hunters. Camo also help when hunting waterfowl. Geese have very good eyes and can see very very well and if you dont have camo on they will see you and will avoid you at all costs.

I am glad you enjoy hunting and i know your grandfather has taught you well. My dad taught me how to hunt and we never have used camo and feel just a part of hunting as anyone else. I believe game see movement and camo offers no help but each to his own and feel what you think is right. i have shot a host of game and feel camo is not necessary but of a tool for businesses to make money. But do what you feel is best and maybe try sometime hunting without camo and see what happens.

My hubby usually wears camo when hunting, but sometimes he'll just wear neutral colors, depending on what's being hunted. . I have to say he does pretty well with it, but it may also have to do with the fact that I wash everything in hunters wash to remove any smell from them first. Either way, I appreciate the fact that he always keeps us supplied with fresh meat.

brownchap1 (7)   ranked 1 out of 21 in hunting  5 years ago

glad to hear your husband is filling the freezer. Smell is important but watching the wind is critical, especially with deer, elk, and most big game. We should all be clean in the woods not just for animals but sure is nice for humans as well. Being quiet, still, watching the wind will put alot of game in the freezer, God bless.
