I am planning to buy a video camera. I may be able to afford only a handycam, but I need to get the best. MY main purpose is to record video interviews with good sound and also to shoot some short movies. Can anyone help me with some suggestions? Which is the best company? Sony? Panasonic? Canon? How do we compare them? Is it better to get the latest model? Write in, all those who use a video camera and professional cinematogrpahers.

comparing video cameras can be confusing. Many of them look alike, their specifications seem similar, and it is easy to get confused by thier terms like optical, digital zoom, optical light ect...
Zoom (bigger isn't always better)you should concentrate on the optical zoom figure wich is usualy 10x or above. The greater the optical zoom, the more you can enlarge your subject without sacrificing picture quality.
Dim light = dim video. look for the ones with a night shot feature.
One chip or three. One chip video camers can still produce quality video while three chip ones produce even better.
I hope this helps for this is what I look for when shopping for video cameras.
