I eat popcorn almost daily. It is a high protein, no fat food. January 19th is national popcorn day. Here are some fun popcorn trivia! These were gleaned from various websites and trivia books. The oldest ears of popping corn were discovered in New Mexico in a bat cave in 1948 and 1950. The ears were 5000 years old! The average American eats 68 quarts of popcorn per year Popcorn has more iron than eggs, spinach, or peanuts The American Cancer Society includes popcorn on the list of '11 things that don't cause cancer.' The first cookbook to list popcorn was in 1846 Popcorn was the firt food to be microwaved deliberatley Some Native American tribes popped corn right on the cob. The cob was speared and held over the fire. The kernals popped and stayed attached to the cob! In an average bag of popcorn the yellow kernals will outnumber the white kernals by 9 to 1

This is the first time I have heard of National Popcorn Day. Hehhehehe. Thanks for all the info. Very interesting. I love popcorn. But, I love chocolate covered popcorn best. I know, not healthy, but I still love it. I like that kettle popcorn too. Did you know that colored popcorn kerns taste the same as the yellow ones? Thanks again for the great post.

I have never had chocolate covered popcorn! Where do you get this ? Yeah, when I was small I got really excited the first time I saw the colored popcorn kernals, as I assumed they would taste differently. Much to my dismay, they tasted the same!

I have bought it at specialty pop corn places. I have also made it. If you like chocolate, you would love it. You can make it yourself. Just make plain popcorn. Then melt chocolate and pour it over the popcorn. It will get hard as it cools off. It's great!!!!!!

Yum, I love popcorn. Especially cheese flavored and caramel. I also used to like the old school Jiffy Pop kind that was in a metal pant that you shook on the stove. Anyone here remember that?

I used to eat popcorn just about every day, but it's a forbidden food now. Both of my brothers had ruptured diverticuli with temporary colostomies; the younger brother still has the colostomy and has to wait 6 more months before the reversal. I had a colonoscopy showing diverticulosis, so I'm very afraid of popcorn. I dont want to be #3 of 3! My parents couldn't take the trauma! Anyways, I found the popcorn facts interesting- I'm surprised that popcorn contains iron. I never knew that.

Gee, all the talk about the diverticulosis/itis has me worried. (both your post and one above you!) Perhaps I should slow down on my popcorn consumption. I seriously have it sometimes twice a day!

I love popcorn. While others crave potato chips, I craved popcorn. While growing up, we raised our own popcorn. I was from a large family. We had a large dishpan full every night. After i was married, I kept this family tradition up. Eveynight I just had to have popcorn. On March 2nd of this year, I was in the hospital for diverticulitis. I did not know I had it till I had this bad attack with it. I can no longer have popcorn after 45 years of eating it, I quit cold turkey. I will never forget the pain on March 2nd.

Oh dear God, I hope that NEVER happens to me. I'd die. I'd simply die. I have popcorn sometimes twice a day! I have it as an afternoon snack and sometimes a second time while watching TV in the evenings! I like to put chili powder or parmesean cheese, or garlic salt..anything on it! I'm so sorry that you cannot have it ,I imagine I should quit talking about it so much!

Sorry, to say but the popcorn is not healthy at all. It is full carbo-hydrate. And depending on flavouring it contains also too much salt, or butter, or sugar. I read though, that is the one cause why the avearage americans so fat.

Popcorn - Popcorn is the worlds most favorite food when watching a movie in theathers or at home.
A popcorn is healthy to eat if it is cooked the healthy way. Some people or vendors of popcorn cook it in oil which makes it very unhealthy. The popcorn can easily absorb all the oil in the cooking pan if it is cooked with oil.
