Wolf Creek based on a true story

Wolf Creek is based on the antics of convicted Aussie serial killer Ivan Milat. He murdered around a dozen female backpackers a few years ago.

This did really happen here in Australia

It did NOT really happen in Austrlia the way the film shows. Just like the Texas Chainsaw massacre it is based off of some killings sometimes more than one event, more inspired by than based on actually...just makes a good line. The film is also said to be influenced by the real life abduction of British tourist Peter Falconio and assualt of his girlfriend Joanne Lees in June 2001 by Bradley John Murdoch in the Northern Territory. At the time of Wolf Creek's inital release in Australia. Murdoch's trial was still underway and so the Northern Territory court placed an injunction on the release of the film there as they beleived it may influence the outcoming of the proceedings.
