Irregular mentrual period sometimes Im delayed, sometimes its more than a week

Ive been having this since high school. My mom says its normal for us since the sister of my grandmother is also delayed for a lot of times and she have lots of children. My mens stopped for almost a year last 2000-2001 and now its back monthly. But sometimes it happens over a week. Is it normal? What can I do?

i think it's normal... since i had my period, i also have irregular periods, sometimes it takes 5-6 weeks interval... there was one time in college where my period also stopped for about 6 months... currently i'm having my period monthly and i already considered normal eventhough the interval is irregular...
