Parents part in education

I would say that since I home school my children I play a very large roll in their education. I choose their curriculum, and how it is presented. At their current ages (7,3,1) I also choose the vast majority of what else they come in contact with to be influenced by. I am with them 99% of their time, and I enjoy the option to have so much control over what they become.

I homeschool the oldest 3 of my 4 children, ages 10, 8, and 6. My youngest son is 2, and he will also be homeschooled when he is the right age. Obviously, I am extremely involved in their education, since I am the one providing their curriculum. I also monitor their work very closely. I think that even if you send your child to public or private school, you can still be very involved. You have to stay on top of their homework, projects, and you can even volunteer at their school.

Parenting involves teaching does it not? So when they are school aged, why should it stop? I help my daughter with her homework, although she knows it all herself, I just sit and watch and tell her that she's doing great work. If she does have a question, I try to answer it in a way that a grade one student will understand. I also buy lots of chapter books for her to read, things that require actual brain power to do, and interactive games that teach at the same time. Teaching isn't just a teacher's job.

As a home educator I have total responsibility for my daughters education. I think that children who are school educated need their parents to be involved as much as possible with their learning. Parents can help in so many ways even if they are busy and only have time to listen to them read a couple of times a week. Parents also have the responsibility to ensure that their child is attending school and work with the teacher if the child is being bullied or is unhappy with the school in any way.

You should always supervise him/her in his everyday lessons. Try to make follow up discussions at home regarding the topics they discussed in school. That way you can monitor their progress. Also, talk to their teachers regularly to know if they are participating well in their eveyday activities.

I'm also a homeschooling mom, so I play an extremely large, important roll in my dd's education. I really enjoy it a lot though.

Need some involvement but not too much. there are different things you can teach them as a parent.
