Did you know....the drug companies pay schools for every child that is on a |
|
psychiatric drug like Ritalin and Prozac. That's right they pay the school $500 per month per child on these medications. Now I ask you what is the purpose for this if not to give the school an incentive to put more children on medication?

1. starr4all (2041) | 2 years ago | It goes with my belief that add/adhd is an over hyped and such. Also, that schools rather drug their kids up then actually take care of kids. Kids will be kids but they don't want to deal with kids.

2. rainbow (3918) | 2 years ago | Wish someone would give me money to have my son on drugs, I'd let him pretend to take them if it got him soem help, He has autism and ADHD and I will not let him take the equasium as it makes him worse, could use the casth though. Bet they don't do it in England, if they did the the school could afford for Bong to have some help.

CheckNitout (548) | 2 years ago | The thing is if anyone should be giving the money it should be the government not the drug companies. It is like the drug companies are saying sure here's some money put a few more kids on medication and we'll give you some more. I am sorry to hear about your son I know it can be difficult especially financially. I wish you all the best.

3. Thoroughrob (5269) | 2 years ago | So the drug companies can make more money. They were really after us to put my son on it and I went a far as seeing the Dr. but we decided against it. They were mad, the teacher really got an attitude. Gave us a hard time, but when we wouldn't budge, theyfinally gave up. That was 5 yrs. ago and my son is doing great and grades are mostly A's and B's.

CheckNitout (548) | 2 years ago | That is so sad that people would rather treat a symptom than find the problem if there is one at all. Society just wants to take the easy way out. No one has the patience to deal with children the way they need to be dealt with anymore. I am glad your son is doing better.

4. Stephanie5 (1559) | 2 years ago | That is pretty messed up! I've been trying to get my 8 year old help. I believe he has OCD and ADD and maybe even a mild case of Terrets(sp). He yells out real loud when everyone else is calm, he claps, he don't sit still for anything. The teacher always writes on the paper that the doc sends that he don't do those things in school. Then the next day she will send a note home to me saying that he was acting out in class! Doesn't make any sense to me. I'm not wanting him to be drugged, but something has got to give. He's bad. Anyways, I don't think that it's right for a drug company to pay a school for such a thing. They shouldn't be paying anyone! That's just more of a reason to drug all our babies, what is this world coming to?

5. SunlightSwoon (556) | 2 years ago | Sounds a bit like a conspiracy. I think parents that have opted to medicate there kids for whatever reasons, should investigate alternative methods to deal with whatever the health issues are. In some cases it just may not be possible, but I believe in many there are alternative solutions...SS

6. ItTakesAllSorts (2211) | 2 years ago | I studied about ADHD and ritalin last year as part of my degree and could not believe that 6 million children are prescribed Ritalin in the USA. This is a scary and depressing issue. Have we turned our children into robots and just drug them if they show characteristics that fall outside the norm of what a child is suppose to behave like. Research has shown that the way children are educated nowadays has increased levels of hyperactivity due to being made to sit for long periods of time, be subjected to a curriculum that just teaches to the test and does not acknowledge that some children need more physical exercise than others. There has been much research into how children are being over-stimulated on these drugs which is neglecting their health and leaving them open to long term problems. Schools need to take responsibility against these drug companies. Does this mean that it is down to the school to diagnose children. If this is the case, this is totally unethical as teachers are not professionally trained to make such a diagnosis. Also, if they are, is it to make money??? The thought on this is unbelievable! To make a profit from drugging children. This is absolutely disgusting. ADHD is so over diagnosed today instead of the real issues being addressed for alot of these children. I know in the UK, parents are given money if their children are diagnosed with ADHD, but what is this doing. Making more parents demand that their child has this so they can get the money. When it should be going to those who are really having difficulties with their children. Cognitive behavioural therapy has been shown to have a much better affect than just getting our kids to pop a pill. If you are interested, please read this article. It certainly opens your eyes to how children are being drugged. http://www.thenewamerican...

8. Sailor (693) | 1 year ago | I didn't know this, but I could believe this is true because something has to pay for the studies, and that is why they the Dr's like to prescribe meds so much instead of trying to find the problems.

9. TeresaK (8104) | 1 year ago | Number one, schools can't put children on medication. It has to be prescribed by a doctor, and parents should make sure that doctor has done EVERY possible test before making a diagnosis and prescribing a drug. Number two, there's no way for schools to know which students are or are not taking Ritalin. Most only need to take meds once a day, in the morning before they leave school, so schools don't know if a child takes it or not unless the parents inform them....and in most cases there is no reason to give them that information.

10. mtdewgurl74 (4755) | 1 year ago | Wow I didn't know that. My nephews school principal is who suggested that my nephew start taking ADHD drugs. Now they have his siter on them also and as far as I can tell they didn't really need them they were good kids just couldn't focus enough on school work they said. I hate giving pills to kids I try to find any other way around it. Sometimes they aren't getting the right amount of vitamins or magnesium or easting the right foods and sometimes that alone can cause focus problems and even acting out problems. My nephew was on Ritalin and it made him a zombie and thankfully my sister had him taken off and he is now on something called concerta time released it is not as bad but still giving a kid pills that damage their body is not good. It would just make them want to put on more kids on this junk..I think they readily hand out pills these days instead of trying to take the time to find another way to the help the problem. To many kids are on this junk today because of doctors not really caring enough about it or just because they get a letter from a school suggesting it. Dumb if you ask me.
