That 70's Show: what caused it to fail towards the end?

Was it because Kutcher and Grace left or was it because the writers didn't stick with the format that worked? I think the show could have survived after Kelso and Eric left town but the writers decided to break of Jackie and Hyde and turn them both into major jerks. There was a huge audience (me included) that watched because of the relationship Jackie and Hyde had and I think them, Fez and Donna and the parents could have carried the show for the rest of the year. There was a lot of potential. The stripper story line would have been funny for an episode or two but they pushed it the whole season and it just didn't work. It was so out of character for Hyde. And I know there were a lot of people that wanted Jackie and Fez together but that seemed unnatural and forced, too. There were some really funny episodes in the last season but whereas the other seasons I looked forward to Thursdays the last year I really didn't care if I missed it because there was better stuff on. I just think it was a sad and pathetic end to one of the best (if not underrated) sitcoms to be made in the last 15 years. They hung in there when the other networks (actually FOX included) were moving from sitcom lineups to dramas and reality shows. At least there is syndication and I get to watch like 4 times a day if I want.

For me it was because Kutcher and Grace left. It wasn't the same show. Plus, it was time to end the show. There is only so many shows you can do for the series.
