Digital Photos.........Extreme Close-ups  email this discussion to a friend?

Hello Everyone.....
I love extreme close-up photos. I've been using a Nikon 4300 Cool-pix combined with a few different homemade macro lenses. I make them from broken binocular and refractor telescope parts. I work by trial and error to make adjustments, so it can take a fair amount of time, but so far I'm very pleased with the results I've achieved. Have any of you tried to make any? What are your thoughts/impressions?

I've never tried this myself, but I love the photo you posted. Taking extreme closeups or pictures of just one component of something (say just the large sprocket on a multi speed bicycle) often making intriguing photos. Would love to see more of your work.

By the way, how did you post that photo? MyLot says we can't post with discussions until we reach 500, although I have seen lots of people with lower numbers posting photos.

Hello dragonstar......

I've been able to post pictures since I began here, what I can't do is post a picture in a response to someone elses discussion, like right here. If you're interested in my photo's check back often, I've got a lot I wouldn't mind sharing. Wait till you see the ones of what I can see in my microscope. I'm also getting good shots of almost everything in my stamp collection. If you're interested, I'm also saving and re-sizing Hubble Telescope photos to post here. You won't believe what this scope has found. When the weather allows I'm going to clamp my camera to one of my telescopes and see if I can get a few of my own. If anything comes out decent I'll post them here.

Tom

I made some reasonable ones in the 70's, I love doing things on a shoestring. My method was to use a set of cheap extension tubes for my 42mm thread mount SLR lens and turn the two outer tubes down to be a push fit on a 12" length of black pvc tubing.
This gave around a 6x lifesize image on the negative.

I don't have a digital camera, but I am also fascinated with the microcosmos, if you will.
I am a geology student and I use some powerful microscopes to watch crystals and minerals, coal or fossils.
I'm sorry I don't have any pictures to upload from that field...Im hoping I'll take some picture of minute millimetrical fossil seeds. I'll be happy to upload those if I manage to get the necessary tools.

Hi Tom, oooh, this is something I love playing with.
They are so much fun, don't some of them come out just grand.

I've included one I took last year before sending a pile of things away to the boffins for ID.

Here's the blurb I put on this pic below,

This is a photo I took through a 10 X lens on a binocular microscope with a normal digital camera mounted on the lens via a cut down 35mm plastic film container. The meteorite was found recently in North West Africa by nomads and is currently (2007) under investigation by the Deptpartment of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Perth, Western Australia. The red spots are flecks of metal, (Nickel-Iron alloy) that have been illuminated by a decollimated red laser.

This meteorite appears to be of the chondrite class, and I don't expect any Earth shattering results from the studies being carried out, but, we shall see.

Oh, bye the way, got a nice latter from 'Latvia' the other day, it's gone into the 'Tom' box and you will be seeing it later.
:-)

Meteorite NWA being classified as we speak.
